THE STORY
SpaceX confirmed it will acquire Cursor (the AI coding assistant by Anysphere) for $60 billion in stock — the largest VC-backed startup acquisition on record. SpaceX had merged with Elon Musk’s xAI earlier this year; Cursor was already co-training a model with xAI on the 100,000-GPU Colossus supercomputer. That joint model will ship inside both Cursor and Grok Build in the near term. Deal closes Q3 2026.

TRANSFORMER CO-INVENTOR NOAM SHAZEER LEAVES GOOGLE FOR OPENAITALENT
THE STORYNoam Shazeer — co-author of the 2017 paper “Attention Is All You Need” that introduced the Transformer architecture — announced June 18 he’s leaving Google DeepMind to join OpenAI as Lead for Architecture Research. Google had paid ~$2.7 billion in 2024 to bring Shazeer back from his own startup Character.AI. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman called it “only 10 years in the making.”
